Village-Schools construction project in Namibia
Baupanel® System, collaborating in the construction of a School Village in Namibia
The Village-School project is being developed in Namibia by the Save the Sun foundation.
Located in Namibia, particularly in the Nyae Nyae area, this construction project is organized by the Save the Sun foundation and financed by international private companies.
Save the Sun works through the non-profit Ju/’hoansi Foundation, Since 2007, the Village School Project will improve the infrastructure of the area and make it possible to increase school attendance.
Also, it is of utmost importance for Nyae Nyae to maintain the ancestral culture through the maintenance of her heritage, language, and memories.
Save the San supports the continued survival of one of the few remaining integrated hunter-gatherer communities on the planet with ties to the land providing education in the Nyae Nyae region is logistically challenging.
Remote locations, long distances, inadequate school facilities, food, and equipment are challenges to quality education. It is also important to emphasize that the Ju/’hoansii bushmen still rely heavily on cultural knowledge and skills for their survival, as collecting fruits, nuts, roots and leaves from the environment provides food and medicine.
THE BUILDING PROJECT
Nina Maritz Architects (Namibia) has designed five schools with environmentally sustainable housing structures and low maintenance, using local materials and manpower in their finished materials, reflecting the Ju / ‘hoan culture.
The architect has ensured that the schools represent the aspirations and views of the Ju / ’hoan community, culturally and educationally, allowing the expression of the rich cultural heritage of Ju/‘hoan.
The project will build 5 School Villages in different areas, each with a different infrastructure and special characteristics according to whether it is located in a forest or in an open savanna.
These schools will be built with Baupanel® technology and will include classes, hostels, accommodation for teachers, kitchen and sanitary facilities. The escuelas will be fully equipped with solar panels, water tanks and furniture. The first school is expected to be built in the town of Den / ui, starting in April this year.
The Baupanel® System allows for a sustainable, safe and fast construction.
